prayer flags

P1020191_1A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I led an art activity during a second night seder for East Side Jews. I have finally had a chance to assemble the results.

I asked everyone to think about the journey from Passover to Shavuot (the 49 days we’re in now) as a time of deep reflection and personal enrichment. Using prayer as a way to open your heart and ask for help, I encouraged everyone to find the words or pictures to express a deep wish for either themselves or the world. I created 2 sheets with Jewish and Passover imagery that everyone could use if they needed visual support for their ideas. Some collaged the images together with words and others drew directly from their imaginations.

There was so much activity during the seder that I didn’t have a chance to really sit down and look at the individual prayers. When I reviewed everything a few days later, I was touched by the simplicity and purity of the prayers. I have discovered prayer only recently and have found it more powerful than meditation as a way to humble my heart.

Passover.01

Last night, I participated in a Passover seder with a local Jewish group called East Side Jews. I designed their Haggadah cover and led an art activity during the seder. It was fun and chaotic – another unusual evening! I am beginning to understand that no two seders are ever the same.

doodle the live long day

I don’t have a clear picture about where I’m going but I am happy to just put pen to paper and remember that I like to draw.

Chanukah.06

I took pictures at  my temple’s Chanukah celebration last night – a very joyous event. I boiled it down to three even though I have a ton of adorable photos of kids. The middle one is a giant outside menorah made out of piping. And a plateful of latkes and apple sauce. Perfect.

Chanukah.05

Last year I was traveling over the holidays and uploaded images from my sketchbook via my phone. A few made it into full color for this year. Yesterday and today’s are from that series. They have a whole new life in color. Enjoy!
